Oh, Deer.

Seeing a recent post on decor8 reminded me of a few etsy things that I have been enjoying. It's a little thing I like to call "people with animal heads." Or, alternatively, "animals with human bodies." Your choice.

Art and Ghosts has lots of examples of this sort of thing, viz.:
But what I like even better are the little statues that I've seen. Here is a Victorian Deer Lady by The Runny Bunny:
And a dashing Deerman by melabo:
I sort of like them as a pair, actually. They are about the same size. The fact that they are pure white adds a little something, don't you think? I can't quite put my finger on it, but I like them much better that way.

Yellow

I've been quite keen on yellow recently (indeed, you can see some yellow in my etsy favorites over there on the right). And by "recently," I mean the last few months, because I've been planning to post some of these pictures for at least that long.

I've been most drawn most to rich, almost orangy yellows. Allow me to share some lovely yellow pictures with you. I hesitate slightly, since I want to own some of them -- but that's just what a generous person I am....

Painting by MincingMockingbird (whose shop you should check out for the titles of the pictures alone). I wish I'd managed to snag the original of this print:Photograph by ScarletBeautiful2:

In fact, I just bought these prints from the Shiny Squirrel (you might recall that I mentioned the show by Lisa Solomon & Aurora Robson before -- I couldn't swing the originals, but these are lovely).

Just a Second There, Mister

You've probably already heard about this if you're in the Bay Area. Apartment Therapy posted about it and also sfgirlbybay. There is a ceramics seconds sale at four & clay.

Well, naturally I went bright and early this morning. By which I mean before 11:00. It was really nice: I got several things, including a few by Whitney Smith. You may recall my love of her from a previous blog post. I posted two things, then: a white bird plate and a green seed pod. Guess what I bought? Yep, I am nothing if not consistent.

A Year of Reading

Where did I find this? Bookshelves of doom and also Smart Bitches, Trashy Books (they also have a follow-up video). I loves it.

Bikes

In other news: I finally got a bicycle. It is a Bianchi Milano and I absolutely love it. Now I can ride in to school. And I have added nice baskets to the back, so that I can actually breathe while I'm riding (I have a lot of books to carry with me...)

This isn't my actual bike; mine is black. But it is the best picture of it that I could find. I love this style of bicycle -- the covered chain and fenders make it a lot easier for me to use it for commuting. I can ride it in a skirt.

I bought it at The Bent Spoke, where they were very nice and went out of their way to pick it up from the warehouse for me. I first saw it and test-rode it at The Missing Link (unfortunately, they'd sold it before I decided to get it).
