Socks with Heels

Is this something that we're doing now? I think it looks nice, mind you. And I remember something similar in, probably, Sassy magazine.

The floral shoes are nicely set off by the socks. I wonder how well the reverse would work -- I think it wouldn't look quite as classy. Below, from Kate Spade's ad campaign:
