Strapping Young Carpet

How hard do you think it would be to make one of these rugs? I found it via Better Living Through Design. Which also happens to be a great site.
It's available at Branch. Generally I'm not pro-leather, but these were going to be thrown away, so I think I can make an exception. I love the colors and how it looks sort of like wood. But, presumably, it's softer. And I like the sense of history that it has.

Makes me want to start haunting Goodwill, snapping up belts. Perhaps I should figure out how to attach them first, though.
